Artist's Description

This is a Downey Woodpecker and frequent feeder at my house. It is a mixed media painting and includes metal and irridescent inks. It is part of Jamie Downs' Bird Series which was begun in 2012. It is on deep canvas and can be self framing or framed.

Jamie Downs

I have been a painter since 1969. At one point, I pursued a photojournalistic career, separate from my fine art focus, which was on my painting; however since the late 1980’s, graphically, and more recently, with the emergence of digital photography, I have been able to merge digital elements into my mixed media work. I expect that new media will more frequently be a part of my art making in the future, though I will always return home to purely plastic, mixed media painting, which is the core of my creative being. For many years my paintings have been primarily non-objective, spiritually based, mixed media works. Since 2001, some elements from nature have begun to appear. I work in series, the major ones being Oneness Paintings, Flowers...
